QBWC1039 "There Was a Problem Adding the Application": Causes and Fixes
Getting QBWC1039 when adding a .qwc file to QuickBooks Web Connector? Learn the common causes and how to add the application cleanly.
QBWC1039 appears when you try to add an application to QuickBooks Web Connector — usually by opening a .qwc file — and QuickBooks refuses. The message reads "There was a problem adding the application. Check QWCLog.txt for details."
Common causes
- QuickBooks isn't open as Admin in single-user mode. Adding a new integration needs administrator access to the company file.
- The app was already added before, possibly to a different company file, and QuickBooks sees a conflict.
- The wrong company file is open, or no file is open at all.
- Windows permissions stop Web Connector from registering the app.
How to fix it
- Open QuickBooks Desktop and the correct company file.
- Sign in as Admin and switch to single-user mode (File → Switch to Single-user Mode).
- In Web Connector, if an old copy of the application is listed, select it and click Remove.
- In QuickBooks, go to Edit → Preferences → Integrated Applications → Company Preferences. If the application is listed there from an earlier attempt, remove it.
- Close and reopen Web Connector, then open the
.qwcfile again with File → Add an Application. - When QuickBooks asks, allow access — ideally "Yes, always; allow access even if QuickBooks is not running" — and pick the user it should log in as.
If it still fails, open C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QBWebConnector\log\QWCLog.txt and read the last lines; they normally name the exact reason.
After it's added
Once the app is in Web Connector, set it to Auto-Run so it syncs on its own. Then make sure someone hears about it if it stops: SyncGuard sends an email or text the moment Web Connector goes quiet.
