QBWC1041 in QuickBooks Web Connector: What It Means and How to Fix It

QBWC1041 shows up for two different reasons: a wrong password, or a bad response from the app's server. Here's how to tell which, and fix it.

QBWC1041 appears in QuickBooks Web Connector for two quite different reasons, so the first step is to read the full message.

Find the full message

Open C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QBWebConnector\log\QWCLog.txt in Notepad and search for QBWC1041. You'll usually see one of these:

  • A message about garbage data or a failed login, which points to the password.
  • SendRequestXML failed with Response is not well-formed XML, which points to the app's server.

Case 1: the password

Intuit lists QBWC1041 as garbage data, typically caused by a password typed incorrectly into Web Connector.

  1. Open Web Connector.
  2. Click in the Password column for the app and type the password the app gave you (often in the app's QuickBooks settings).
  3. Press Enter and click Yes to save it.
  4. Click Update Selected.

If you're not sure of the password, regenerate it in the app, download a fresh .qwc file, remove the old app from Web Connector and add the new one.

Case 2: SendRequestXML failed

This means Web Connector reached the app's web service, but what came back wasn't valid. It isn't something you can fix in QuickBooks. It's an error on the app's side, often:

  • A server error or outage at the app's provider
  • A record with characters the app didn't encode properly (an ampersand or accented letter in a customer or item name)
  • The app sending a request when it had nothing to sync

Note the time of the error and the record you were syncing, then send the relevant part of QWCLog.txt to the app's support team. If it happens on one record only, editing unusual characters out of that record often gets syncing moving again.

Spot it early

A QBWC1041 on one app can quietly stop that app while the others keep syncing. SyncGuard tracks each app in Web Connector separately and alerts you as soon as one reports an error.
