Web Connector Missing in QuickBooks Desktop? Here's Where to Find It

Can't find QuickBooks Web Connector? Here's where it lives, how to open it from QuickBooks, and what to do if it really isn't installed.

QuickBooks Web Connector is a separate Windows program that comes with QuickBooks Desktop, so it's easy to lose track of. Here's where to find it.

Open it from QuickBooks

In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File → App Management → Update Web Services. This opens Web Connector with your apps listed.

If Update Web Services isn't in the menu:

  • You might be in multi-user mode or not signed in as the Admin. Switch to single-user mode as the Admin and check again.
  • You might be using QuickBooks Online. Web Connector is only for QuickBooks Desktop (Pro, Premier, Enterprise and Accountant). Online apps connect directly.

Open it from Windows

  • Click Start and type Web Connector.
  • Or look in the system tray by the clock. Web Connector often runs there, hidden under the ^ arrow.
  • The program itself is usually at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\QBWebConnector\QBWebConnector.exe.

If it isn't installed

Newer QuickBooks Desktop versions install Web Connector automatically. If it's missing, a QuickBooks update or repair usually restores it, or you can install it yourself. See how to download and install QuickBooks Web Connector.

Missing apps inside Web Connector

If Web Connector opens but an app you use isn't listed, its .qwc file needs adding again. Get the file from the app (usually in its QuickBooks settings), open Web Connector, click Add an application, choose the file, and approve the access prompt in QuickBooks.

Keep an eye on it

Once it's set up, Web Connector runs quietly in the background, which means nobody notices when it stops. SyncGuard watches it on every QuickBooks PC and alerts you if it closes or an app stops syncing.
