How to Download and Install QuickBooks Web Connector
A step-by-step guide to downloading QuickBooks Web Connector, installing it, and adding your first app with its .qwc file.
QuickBooks Web Connector is the free Intuit program that lets web apps (stores, order systems, warehouse and CRM tools) exchange data with QuickBooks Desktop. Here's how to install it and connect your first app.
Before you start
- Web Connector is for QuickBooks Desktop on Windows (Pro, Premier, Enterprise or Accountant), not QuickBooks Online.
- Install it on the computer where QuickBooks and the company file are, usually the main office PC or server.
- Sign in to Windows as a user who can install software.
1. Check whether it's already there
Recent QuickBooks Desktop versions include Web Connector. In QuickBooks, go to File → App Management → Update Web Services. If it opens, skip to step 3. See also where to find Web Connector.
2. Download and install it
- Download QuickBooks Web Connector from Intuit's official website (search QuickBooks Web Connector download on intuit.com or the Intuit developer site). Avoid third-party download sites.
- Close QuickBooks.
- Run the installer and follow the prompts.
- Restart the computer if asked.
3. Add your app's .qwc file
Each app gives you a small .qwc file that tells Web Connector where the app is and how often to sync.
- Open QuickBooks as the Admin, in single-user mode, with the company file open.
- Open Web Connector and click Add an application.
- Choose the
.qwcfile and click OK. - In QuickBooks' prompt, choose Yes, whenever this QuickBooks company file is open or, for unattended syncing, Yes, always; allow access even if QuickBooks is not running, and select the Admin user.
- Back in Web Connector, type the app's password in the Password column and save it.
- Tick the app and click Update Selected to test.
4. Turn on Auto-Run
Tick Auto-Run and set Every_Min so the app syncs on its own. Our Auto-Run guide covers the details, and unattended mode explains how to keep it syncing when nobody is signed in.
5. Make sure you hear when it stops
Web Connector doesn't alert anyone when it fails. SyncGuard installs in a minute on the same PC and emails or texts you if Web Connector stops, the PC goes offline, or any app reports an error.
