QuickBooks Web Connector Not Opening? How to Fix It

Web Connector won't open, closes straight away, or isn't in the system tray? These are the usual causes and the fixes, step by step.

If QuickBooks Web Connector won't open, opens and closes straight away, or never appears in the system tray, nothing syncs to QuickBooks Desktop. Here's how to get it running.

1. Check whether it's already running

Web Connector often runs minimised in the system tray (the icons by the clock). Click the ^ arrow to show hidden icons and double-click the Web Connector icon. If Task Manager shows QBWebConnector.exe but no window appears, end that task and start Web Connector again.

2. Start it the right way

Open it from Start → QuickBooks → Web Connector, or from QuickBooks with File → App Management → Update Web Services. If it only opens when you right-click and choose Run as administrator, it's a permissions problem (see step 5).

3. Rename a damaged log file

A damaged QWCLog.txt can stop Web Connector starting. Go to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QBWebConnector\log\, rename QWCLog.txt to QWCLog.old, and try again. This is the same fix as QBWC1085.

4. Repair .NET Framework

Web Connector is a .NET program. If .NET is damaged it closes without an error. Install Windows updates, then use the QuickBooks Tool Hub → Installation Issues → QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool, which repairs .NET and related components.

5. Fix folder permissions

The Windows user running Web Connector needs to read and write C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QBWebConnector. Right-click the folder → Properties → Security and give that user Modify rights.

6. Reinstall Web Connector

If it still won't open, uninstall QuickBooks Web Connector from Settings → Apps, download the current version from Intuit (see how to download and install Web Connector), install it, then add each app's .qwc file again.

Make sure it starts on its own

After a restart, Web Connector has to start again by itself or syncing stops until someone notices. Add it to Windows startup and turn on Auto-Run; our overnight syncing guide explains how.

SyncGuard checks every 5 minutes whether Web Connector is running on each PC and alerts you if it isn't, so a closed Web Connector never goes unnoticed.
